Toad – Studio & AutoMower

The AM1 is made to manage smaller yards and gardens, with a cutting height up to 2” of grass. Equipped with the latest optics and object identification software (OIS) to navigate around obstacles and adjust to changing conditions.

I tried to take something simple and give it a friendly expression with a focus on defining the design through the exaggerated gap widths and playful irrationality of non-concentric part-to-part corner radii.

The mechanical power switch must be placed in the down position for the mower to operate. It acts like having a key in the “on” position.

The connected and digital experience provided easy set-up, remote monitoring, and product diagnostics. Key features are zone selections and routes based on efficiency and growth patterns.

The dot-matrix display added to the throw-back feeling of the overall design. The removable head unit provided the user to store the “brain” of the machine in-doors during extreme weather and for the unit to be repairable and swapable, like old Atari game cartages.
